Easy Tropical Party Ideas

Two weekends ago, we celebrated our daughter turning 3! You all helped celebrate with us; we were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love :)

Emma requested a “Moana party” fashioned after the newest Disney movie, Moana! For this week’s blog post, I thought I would share some of my party planning ideas. Read on for some fun and easy party décor ideas and a favor that was popular amongst the kids (and honestly the adults, too) – Tamatoa’s slime!

Tropical Party Decorations

Moana is a great theme because you can decorate with any tropical décor, eschewing the expensively licensed Moana decorations and favors. I had a lot of tropical décor left over from a bridal shower that I threw last summer so I was able to recycle a lot of that. I decorated heavily with palm leaves that I got from amazon. They were great as a table runner: simple but sophisticated.  I also cut up some gold tissue paper to make confetti! Perfect to go with the Moana theme! 🎶(‘Cause I’m Shiny!)🎶

Sticking with the tropical theme, I made a flower vase out of a pineapple… Yes, that’s right, a real pineapple! Simply cut the top off, scoop out the fruit and juice inside, and voila! I placed the fruit in a container and used in our smoothies. Add some water and flowers and you have a charming party decoration!

For party favors I made “Tamatoa’s Slime.” If you’re unfamiliar, Tamatoa is a crab from Moana. Sounds messy and fussy, but it’s really super simple.

Tamatoa's Slime

Ingredients:

  • Clear glue
  • Jumbo gold glitter
  • Borax
  • Water
  1. Add ¼ cup of water to two separate bowls.
  2. Add ¼ cup of clear glue to one of the bowls of water and mix well.
  3. Add the jumbo gold glitter to the previously mixed glue & water mixture.
  4. Add ¼ teaspoon of borax to the other water bowl and mix until it’s dissolved.
  5. Slowly add the borax mixture to the glue mixture. It will be goopy and wet at first, but keep stirring! The more you stir the more you’ll get to the final texture of slime!

Done! Super easy! I found some 8-ounce mason jars at target that were the perfect size for party favors for the little ones. I printed off a Tamatoa label (print your label), cut it out and taped it to the top! The slime was a huge hit with the kids, and the adults had fun playing with it as well!

Not doing a Moana party? Add another glitter color to go with your theme or holiday.

Thanks for reading! I hope you found these party tips to be helpful! They are simple but classic enough that you can use them for kids’ parties or  when throwing a shower! Simple but classic? That’s what Emmy Mae Presents is all about! Please share your thoughts, feedbacks, or party hacks below!
